Cookie Monster

In case you don't already know this about me, I love sweets.  I love them in the morning and in the afternoon.  I love them in the evening and underneath the moon (if you didn't start singing Skinny Marinky Dinky Dink in your head just now get lost).  But it's true.  I really love all types of sweets and I sort of wish I didn't.

I don't think the issue is that I enjoy sweets, lots of people do.  I think the issue is that I crave them... like all the time.  Lazy Saturdays are just better with some homemade chocolate chip cookies and a glass of milk in hand.  And those stressful days at work, well it's nothing that a little cupcake can't take my mind off of for an hour or so.  Do you see how this is dangerous?  I mean it would be nice if I had different cravings and really loved fruit or something healthier... but I don't.

I'd like to blame part of this on my mother who started this infatuation of mine at a young age.  I mean look at me?  I've got Cookie Monster clothes for my formal Olan Mills photo.  Talk about commitment.  Not to mention that my mom also loves sweets, with most her dinners in college consisting of a pack of Reese's cups and a soda.  It's clear where I get it from.

Ugh.  I need to get this under control.  With our trip to Cancun less than 3 weeks away, I'm making changes (at least temporarily).  That's right, I've given up sweets from now until our trip- eek!  I genuinely hope I can go without but it's going to be hard.  Pathetic, I know, but at least I'm honest.

Wish me luck, I'm going to need it.

one step forward

Well, I promised I'd let you all know how my weigh in went and I'm happy to say that I lost just under a pound!  I know that isn't within the 1-2 pound range I was hitting a few weeks back, but it's certainly better than gaining and finally got me over the hump I'd been bouncing between since the end of January.  I mean going back back and forth 1-2 pounds for a month was frustrating and I'm hoping this will give me the motivation I need to keep things moving.

I was pretty good in meeting my challenges set last week.  I ran twice (once with Tank) and walked him another time.  I didn't exceed my 15 extra weekly points and only went over my daily points twice; the first for my Mom's birthday and the second at a fundraiser with way too many appetizers (my downfall!).

In general, I'm really happy with how the week turned out and if I can keep this up, am looking forward to my next weigh in!

kickin it up a notch

In keeping with the confession trend, I have to admit that I am struggling with Weight Watchers lately. I'm not as zealous about tracking my points or my daily point allowance. The way WW works is that I get so many points a day plus a weekly point allowance. When I first started on the plan, I rarely exceeded my daily points and only occasionally tapped into my weekly ones. However, now it seems as though that commitment has gone out the window. Something has got to give and I'm fairly certain it isn't going to be my weight... so it's got to be me.

I have challenged myself to not exceed my daily points at all leading up to the weekend (what a novel concept!) and am also decreasing my weekly extra point allowance from 49 to 15 points. I also was thinking I might kick it up another notch with some additional exercise. And by additional I mean adding it to my routine period. I've been averaging working out once a week which, shocker, hasn't really done much. My plan is to walk Tank at least 3x this week and get two runs in over the weekend. I can't wait for daylight savings so I can get back to running after work, something I surprisingly look forward to.

I feel a little embarrassed that I've been yo-yoing around the 18-19 total pounds lost point and really want to hit 20 gone by next Sunday. WW has all of these articles on hitting your plateau and I've heard the last 10 pounds are the hardest, but at this rate of around half a pound a week (sometimes not even that) it's going to make me f.o.r.e.v.e.r. to knock off another 15-20. I'm only half way to my goal (which as changed a few times to be a bit more aggressive) so I've got to up the ante to keep moving the scale. Wish me luck, and I'll give you an update next Sunday!
