Midweek Confession

Since I'm on a roll this week, I might as well try to get back into a few good habits.   Midweek Confessions, inspired by our real friend Elizabeth over at E, Myself, and I is always fun to participate in.

No need to waste any time.

1. I've embraced two of the three Pinterest secret boards you're allotted.  I won't share what they are (it's a secret) but I'm sure you can guess one of them.

2. I spent too much money on a quart of "powder paint" for the dresser in our bedroom.  This locally made, organic paint is supposed to compete with Annie Sloan's chalk paint and is cheaper (if you can believe it).  Let's hope its as good as everyone claims.

3. I'm going to be in two weddings this year and I'd sort of forgotten how expensive being a bridesmaid can be.  I love both of the brides, so no worries there, but I'm not sure Jake and I will make it to Napa for our anniversary after all and I'm bummed.

4. Making over our bedroom has become an obsession.  We'd never invested any money into our room until recently when we bought a king size bed, and now it's on.  Since our headboard and footboard no longer fit and my love for our furniture is starting to wane it's set a ball in motion that neither of us can stop.  Hopefully the paint, curtains, new duvet, refinished dresser, and possible upholstered headboard (fingers crossed!) will do the trick.

5. I've made hot chocolate (with more marshmallows than a five year old would request) every day for the past week.

6. I'm finally back on the Weight Watchers train but am not having as much immediate success.  The first week I lost 2 1/2 pounds and gained 0.1 and 0.7 the weeks following.  I'm sure the cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies last week didn't help my cause.  I need to lose 10 pounds by the time we travel to Cancun in March.

7. I have had no desire to do laundry lately.  The result has been me going through the dirty clothes recycling my dress socks.

8. The most recent movie I watched was Judge Dread, and I liked it.

Midweek Confessions

I'm finally ready to link up for E, Myself, and I's Midweek Confessions and it gets skipped this week! Ugh.

Well I guess in effort to prove my willingness to participate I'll just go ahead and do it... by myself.

Here it goes...

-My sister went out of the country and I had no idea!  Here I am harassing her about what to do for her birthday and all the while she is hundreds of miles away without cell phone reception.  Fail!

-WW is not going well.  I haven't gained but I'm at a standstill.  Maintaining is great- when you've hit your goal weight, but I've still got 15lbs to go!

-I love Shark Week.  I was watching it on DVR at 5am this morning.

-I've been counting down for Fall so that once Shipyard's Pumpkinhead Ale came into stock I could buy as much as possible.  Well, Fall must have come early because Jake sent me a picture of a 6 pack and I flipped.  No joke.  I called him right away and started screaming.  He bought 2 cases.

-We're buying a house.  More on that later!

Midweek Confessions

Whenever I'm trying to get back on track with blogging it always feels like I ease into with a little Midweek Confession.  Clearly today is no exception.

I must confess...

-I had skinny dip today even though I wasn't in love with the flavors.  Don't get me wrong, Cookies-n-Cream is a good one but it isn't the best pairing with my favorite toppings.

-While our temporary roommate, Matt, was moving out today I sat on the couch and stalked people on Facebook.  Eventually I offered to help but it was half-hearted and he didn't take me up on my offer.

-I'm feeling even more anti-social this week than usual.

-I thought I might cry this morning when I woke up with arm pain from my tetanus shot.  I knew it would be bad (I'm still traumatized from the first one) but my arm feels like it's on fire, looks swollen, and I'm fairly certain my range of motion has decreased.

-I realize that overall this post is coming across as fairly negative, but I've not been in the best spirits lately.  Truth is, my Papa is really sick and I'm coming to terms with the fact that he isn't going to  get better.  It's hard to watch and hard to process.  I've been praying about it a lot and find such comfort in seeking God when I'm feeling sad.  Selfishly I'd love to have him around longer, but deep down I know he is going to a better place.  He's had a really great life surrounded by people who love him and I'm sure if he was asked he wouldn't have any complaints.  I love that man.

midweek confessions

I'm really getting the hang of this whole linking up concept.  Go me.  Go me. Go me.  Too much?  Understood.  Well, the good news is this week that I think I'll be able to actually write about more than one topic (aka no tax talk here!).  Yay for movement out of my self pity party.  Here it goes...

-I am cooking dinner from scratch this week for Jake's birthday which is a true gift since he does 90% f the cooking (don't judge me) and I'm already not a fan.  I personally don't know how some women do it.  I commute to work, put in my 8+ hours, get home, go for a run, and start cooking as soon as I get back.  I try to clean as I go but by the time I'm taking a seat it's 8:00!  I don't know how some people do it, I mean could you imagine inserting a small child into that schedule?  I.don't.think.so.

-Today when I came home the minute I came through the door I found Tank laying in the submissive position on the couch.  Not good.  I dropped my bag, looked down, and found the sole of Jake's new loafers completely chewed and thrown across the carpet.  I disciplined Tank and then called Jake to confirm he in fact left his shoes out (as if I didn't know).  I can see the remnants out of the corner of my eye right now as I blog and I'm not going to clean it up.  I think Jake needs to see what his "pup pup" is capable of.

-I have absolutely no discipline when I walk into stores these days.  I don't know what's wrong with me but I'm crazed for new clothes and I'm not very good about telling myself no.  To my defense, a lot of my clothes are old and have been worn well past their prime, but replacing them gets expensive.  I try not to hide my shopping endeavors from Jake, but I know his anxiety is growing as he sees me sporting new outfits.  Don't get me wrong, we're both fans of my style these days- he definitely prefers it to my sweats, sport bra, and t-shirts (strange, I know) but I still sort of feel bad.  Also to my defense, my clothes from before aren't fitting right.  They are too big, which is a good problem to have, or are severely "worn in".  I'm talking sweat and bleach stains, faded colors, etc. it's bad news bears when you work in the kind of office environment that I do.

-My new boss starts next Monday and I went from nervous to excited to anxious all over again.  I have only met her briefly and she seems really nice, but for whatever reason this weekend I started questioning whether that is really her or if her "true" side will reveal itself with time.  Eek, I guess I won't know til I know.

-Jake's birthday is tomorrow and I don't really have a good gift for him.  I replaced is cologne which jut ran out from high school and bought him a nice pair of VT work out shorts.  He is the worst when it comes to gifts, so I just don't stress over it anymore.  As a matter of fact, I'm fully prepared for him to ask me to return both things... and I will, without hurt feelings because it's just how he is.

-I'm considering hitting the tanning bed.  Terrible, I know.  It's just that it's getting warmer and I'd like to let my legs out to play without blinding innocent onlookers.  Know what I mean?  We'll see if I do it or not.  In past years when I've gone it's given me the base tan I need to avoid a harsh sunburn when I finally hit the beach.  Decisions, decisions.

Hope you're having a good week!

midweek confessions

Good news and bad news.  The good news is that I'm reaching "consistent" status with linking up for midweek confessions.  And now for the bad news..

-We got our taxes done today and are basically getting nothing back.  Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful we don't owe, but I am the type of person that looks forward to getting a big refund and was shocked with the amount we're getting.

-Still on the tax return topic, the person working with us said numerous times that we should buy house based on our income, etc.  She reviewed all the benefits of doing so and went on to talk about how other clients of hers who made less money than we did purchased a home and were seeing a much better tax return than we were... not to mention they owned a home.  I get it.  I got it.  Understood.  Trust me, we aren't renters because we are interested in buying a home, but we're not there yet.  Slow and stead wins the race, right?

-Keeping with the tax return theme, because of this unexpected and disappointing news I spent the evening stress eating.  I walked out of the tax place, passed my car, and did a slight jog to Just Cupcakes because it was in my line of sight but closed at 6... and it was 6:05.  The owner was packing up and told me they were closed.  Despite being defeated I held the door open for him anyway as he loaded boxes into his car.  This act of kindness paired with the pure look of desperation on my face must have pulled on the heartstrings because before I knew it he said he could check to see what they had in the back.  Hallelujah.   And he had me at mint... $3.00 later I was stuffing my face in my parked car right in front of the tax place.   Once I got home I had a Breyer's ice cream sandwich and moped around the house.

That's all for now, obviously I can't talk about anything unrelated to our tax appointment at the moment.  Sorry, maybe next week will be balanced with more good news.

these look better than the one I had

midweek confessions

I'm going to attempt week two of participating in midweek confessions over at a friend of mine's blog.  I don't feel like I have anything outstanding to share, but I'll give it my best shot.

-On Saturday morning I woke up to a clicking sound that I thought was Jake clipping his toenails.  Odd.  After listening to it for what felt like forever I got out of the bed determined to make him stop and save the little bit of his toenails that I assumed were left.  To my surprise, when I opened the bedroom door I was hit with a drop of water.  Yep.  I looked up and saw that we had a leak coming through our attic and it was slowly making a pool of water right on the carpet (I'm using "pool" lightly, it's more for dramatic effect).  Jake had to climb into the attic, move around our Christmas decorations, and temporarily patch it with duct tape.  It worked... and all I can say is I'm seriously glad it was a leak and was not an aggravated attack on Jake's toenails, they are short as it is.

-When I run with Tank I slow him down.  It's sad really.  He just looks back at me, encouraging with his little eyes to come on.

-Speaking of running, I tripped (and fell) on my run after work.  It wasn't the best way to kick start my running-after-work-routine,  but it happened and I hit the ground hard.  I ran walked away with a welt on my side, scratched hands, and a busted earphone.  For the record, I did eventually shake it off an ran another mile and a half.  But still... embarrassing.

-Still no computer bag.  Hopefully my luck changes before my two work trips in April.

midweek confessions

This week, I confess...

-I've spent way too much time searching for the perfect laptop bag.  I just can't find a nice bag that is big, but not too big and doesn't scream "I'm holding a computer!".   Oh, and would be great if it was either a nice tan leather OR one of my favorite colors with a shoulder strap.  Impossible?

-I just learned that I will be out of town on both my birthday and my anniversary this year for separate work events.  This is odd because my birthday is exactly a week before my anniversary and I usually don't have much going on in October at work.

-I went to Havana's for lunch yesterday and almost finished the half order of BBQ chicken nachos... by myself.  Let's just say that wasn't a point-friendly move.

-Speaking of food, I've been counting down to a friend's birthday dinner at Yardhouse tomorrow night.  I've even anticipated having a light dinner tonight and being really good tomorrow just to prepare for it.  Yep, I love Yardhouse that much.

-We have friends who moved to Hawaii this past summer and I've been thinking more and more how much I want to visit them.  The main thing to know about this couple is they have a baby on the way this June and I was sort of removing that factor from my mind so I could pinpoint the perfect time this summer to visit.  I mean new parents don't mind guests, right?

-I branched out and tried something other than the avocado cucumber roll from the Sakura Elite cart in the mall.  I ordered the "Number 6" which is one avocado cucumber roll and one sweet potato roll... and ladies and gentlemen, I think this might be my new regular order there.  Oh, and by "regular" I mean I may or may not let myself eat there once a week, but I'm not willing to fully disclose that information at this time (midweek confession or not).

-I'll admit I'm focused a lot on food these days (see the bagillion confessions on the topic above) and the pounds are much slower to come off, but I'm being patient and realize I still have a long way to go but have come a long way at the same time.

-Work is good, but busy.  I spoke too soon when I wrote my end of January post.  We'll see if slows down anytime soon.

-I haven't dusted a few pieces of furniture in months.  Gross.
